Best Practices & Tips
Scribematic is built to accommodate non-linear clinical workflows and frequent interruptions during patient care.
Helpful Workflow Reminder
A useful way to think about managing encounters:
Pause → Switch patients → Resume later → Finalize when complete
Scribematic automatically appends resumed recordings into the original patient note, eliminating the need to merge files manually.
Best Practices for Multi-Patient Workflows
- Pause recordings before leaving the room
- Resume the same note when returning to the patient
- Review notes before finalization to minimize later edits
- Use unfinalize when additional dictation is needed
Best Practices for Editing Notes
If you want to make additional information after finalization:
- Consider unfinalizing the note first
- Add your updates before refinalizing
This helps prevent needing to reapply edits later.
Important Reminder About Talk to Your Note
Information added using Talk to Your Note:
- Modify the note text only
- Do not alter the original audio recording
If the note is refinalized later, Talk to Your Note edits need to be reapplied.

- Scribematic will continue recording into the same note.
- Scribematic will continue recording into the same note.
There’s no need to merge files or manage separate recordings — Scribematic automatically appends the new audio to the original recording.
How to Unfinalize a Note
Finalized a note — then realized you forgot something?
No problem.
To Unfinalize:
- Open the note.
- Tap Unfinalize at the top of the screen.
- Resume recording as needed.
This allows you to add additional dictation before locking the note again.
How to Edit After the Visit with “Talk to Your Note”
Need to make quick updates after the visit — without reopening the full recording?
You can use Talk to Your Note to apply edits directly to the note text.
Important Details
- Edits made through Talk to Your Note modify the note itself.
- They do not change the original audio recording.
- If you refinalize later, you’ll need to reapply any Talk to Your Note edits.
Best Practice Tip
If you anticipate additional updates, consider unfinalizing first before making major changes to avoid having to reapply edits later.
